? In 1830, almost 200 years ago, the world’s first inter-city passenger rail service opened between Manchester and Liverpool. It was transformative to the industrial progress of both cities and unarguably to the world.
? Today the Labour Government has announced the biggest transformation to rail travel in the North of England in a generation with the announcement that Northern Powerhouse Rail - High Speed links across the big northern cities - will finally go ahead.
? We’re reversing years of underinvestment by the Tories with plans for faster and more frequent train services across the North;
?️ We’ll improve links between Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield and York - as well as connections to Newcastle and Hull and an intention to build a newlink between Manchester and Birmingham and HS2.
? We’ll spend up to £45 billion as part of our growth plan for the North, unlocking massive opportunities.
